Probably by mistake, the previous owner -- or the owner before him -- had made contact with his hot pipes with some kind of foreign substance, which had left the pipes looking like this:
| What will you need? Easy-Off and steel wool, in 000 grade -- that's triple zero, folks. |
| Get your pipes really warmed up, either by iddling in the garage, or, better yet, after a brisk neighbourhood ride. Once you're back, spray on the easy-off on the pipes and wait a few minutes. Then, all you have to do is lightly scrub the pipes with the steel wool. Careful, the pipes are still hot. You'll be left with a whitish residue on your pipes, which will look like this: |
| After a little more waiting time, just take a clean, wet, no make that damp, shop towel to wipe off the residue, and your pipes will be as nice as they were when they came off the dealer's floor. |
Note: the Easy-Off and steel wool technique can do absolutely nothing to fix pipes scratched by an original owner who dropped the bike at 5 km/h!
