Wrenching

Cleaning the chain

Cue Fleetwood Mac "Listen to the wind blow..."

What you'll need:

A stool. It just makes life more comfortable.

Kerosene. Ask for it by name...
An paintbrush that will never see paint again.

An aluminum cake pan.(Note to self: Don't ever use the ones from the drawer below the stove again.)

A beer. This is a one-beer project.

The pan is placed below the chain, between the center stand and the rear wheel. Clean by vigorously, brushing the bottom of the chain with the brush. Do 4 to 6 inches at a time, then rotate the wheel by hand. (That would be the rear wheel, BTW)

On the right, the cleaned chain, on the left, a dirty section. (The chain guard has been removed, for clarity)

Environmental Note: The dirty kerosene you now have in your pan should be brought to your friendly mechanic, where it will be disposed of properly. Either that or strike a match.
